History

Burnage Good Neighbours operates from Burnage Community Centre. We are a voluntary care group set up in 1977 as a job creation project which was initially sponsored by neighbouring care groups who saw the need for a similar scheme in Burnage.

In 1978 control of the group was passed over to a committee of founder members and in 1979 a grant from Social Services enabled us to employ a part time Co-ordinator.

Now

Today Burnage Good Neighbours has its own independent Management Committee and paid, part time co-ordinator and administrator. The main funding comes from Manchester City Council but we are also reliant on fundraising and donations from various companies, grant giving trusts and the generosity of private individuals.

Burnage Good Neighbours works with a range of partners for mutual benefit, sharing our information and experience. It aims to represent the views of, and act on behalf of, older residents of Burnage when dealing with outside bodies. It provides a range of services via a dedicated and committed group of volunteers.

Burnage Good Neighbours promotes Valuing Older People and provides opportunities  for people who feel isolated to meet with their peers and feel part of the local community.

Burnage Good Neighbours provides volunteering opportunities for local people which we firmly believe benefits the volunteers as much as the older people they support.
